This is the battlefield for our game of speed and strategy…
These are the letters which lead to victory! Make this show a real Blockbuster at your next big event!
GAMEPLAY
A solo player and a team of two will compete against each other in a race to connect a path of hexagons to their respective colored sides, by answering a series of questions. The solo player is the RED player and tries to connect a path top to bottom; the pair is the WHITE team and tries to connect a path left to right.
The board is comprised of 20 hexagons, and each hexagon contains a different letter of the alphabet. One letter will be chosen at random to start the game. The answers to the questions will begin with the particular letter that is chosen. For example, if the letter ‘C’ is chosen, the question might read: “What ‘C’ is a brand of tobacco, or the capital of Denmark?” Questions may be like this example, common bonds, definitions, or wordplay.
The contestants may buzz in at any time they think they know the answer. A correct answer by the solo player results in the hexagon turning red, while a correct answer by the team results in the hexagon turning white. If a contestant buzzes in and is incorrect, the other side will get to hear the question in full before submitting their own answer.
- If a member of the pair buzzes in, ONLY that player can answer the question. If the player that buzzed in gives an incorrect answer, their partner is NOT allowed to submit their own answer. Likewise, if the solo player buzzes in and is incorrect, the pair will hear the question in full, and only ONE member of the pair may give an answer, by raising their hand.
If a correct answer is given, that player gets to choose the next letter on the board, in order to try to connect their colored sides. The first player(s) to connect their respective sides wins the game and $500. The solo player can connect in as few as four correct answers; the team can connect in as few as five correct answers. In our version, it takes two games to win the match. The contestant(s) who wins the match goes to the GOLD RUSH!
BONUS GAME (GOLD RUSH)
The GOLD RUSH works the same way as the main game, except contestants are only trying to connect sides left to right, not top to bottom. If the pair wins the main game, they select one player to play to GOLD RUSH.
Instead of each hexagon containing a single letter, they may include one, two, three, or four letters, representing the initials of the correct answer. For example, if the hexagon contains ‘WW’, the question may be, “Was the 28th U.S. President” (answer: Woodrow Wilson), or ‘HOTM,’ “A 1982 hit for Asia” (answer: Heat of the Moment).
The player must always begin by selecting one of the hexagons on the far left. The player has 60 seconds to make the gold connection from left to right. Each correct answer will turn the hexagon gold, while every incorrect answer, or a PASS, will turn the hexagon black, and the player must work around it to make the connection. If they can connect gold to gold within the 60 seconds, they win the GOLD RUN and $5,000! If they fail to make the connection in 60 seconds, they are awarded $100 for each correct answer.
SUGGESTIONS
*FOR ALL SHOWS: The main purpose for these shows is entertainment and fun, first and foremost. While many of these games display large amounts of money and/or lavish prizes, we do NOT provide any such prizes for the games. All parties are welcome to provide their own prizes/gifts that may be implemented in gameplay. Below are simply some suggestions we have come up with in order to make the gameplay more interesting and/or competitive.
*ADD A SWAG BAG!: Want to play for real prizes? Add a swag bag of awesome Eek! products to any gameshow package and award gifts as individual prizes or play for an ultimate prize package!
If you wish, you can eliminate the solo player vs. team format and simply have two individuals compete against each other. Likewise, for larger groups, you may have teams compete against each other, instead of individuals.
On the TV gameshow, the winner of each game would win $500. If the Gold Rush was completed successfully, $5,000 would be awarded. If the Gold Rush wasn’t completed, $100 would be awarded for each correct answer (each gold hexagon). If you wish, it may be fun to keep a running score of the money won by contestants, and the contestant(s) that wins the most money is the big winner(s)!
If you would like to provide your own prizes, you can include them as part of winning the main game or the Gold Rush, or you could use the “money” won as a currency to buy prizes. For example, if a contestant wins a total of $6,000, they could trade that money in for a prize (say a $5 Starbucks gift card is worth $500, a $10 Amazon card is worth $2,500, a paid day off work is worth $5,000, etc.). Again, you would need to provide these prizes, but we are happy to keep score for you.
Since a “Blockers!” package comes with three full matches and Gold Rush rounds, you may use a “returning champion” feature, where whoever wins each match continues to the next, or, depending on how the players/teams are set up, have the winners of the first two games compete against each other in the final game.
If the pair wins the match, but don’t want to “share” the prize, you could do a tie breaker of sorts, where an additional question would be asked, and the first member of the pair to answer correctly plays the GOLD RUSH. Or, both members could play the GOLD RUSH separately, and whoever does so faster wins the GOLD RUSH (the second to play would have to excuse themselves so they don’t see/hear the answers).
