HOT TATER!

Two teams that are three of a kind are here to play Hot Tater!

Two teams of three contestants compete against each other to try to correctly identify items that belong to a list.

Each list will have at least 7 correct answers but may contain more.  The object is to be the first team to identify the 7th item to a list or have all opposing team members eliminated from play.

On the TV gameshow, the contestants on each team all had something in common (Police Officers, Clowns, Pilots, etc.)  This feature is not necessary for our game, but teams may choose a team name.

A sample list question may be, “Name 7 of the 10 largest cities in the United States by population”.

The BLUE TEAM (Comic Nerds) will be in control of the first question.  If Matt wishes, he can try to answer one of the cities that is on the list or choose to pass the HOT TATER! (See below)

Matt chooses to answer “New York City”.  This is a correct answer, so control stays with the Comic Nerds.  The correct answer that was given is listed above, and the option is then passed to Matt’s teammate, Zippy.

The Comic Nerds may continue to answer one at a time, in a round robin format, as long as correct answers are given.  However, if at any time a wrong answer is given, the contestant who gave the wrong answer is eliminated from the game and control then goes to the ORANGE TEAM (Stumptown).

In the above example, the Comic Nerds have answered 4 correct answers in a row.  It is once again Zippy’s option.  Zippy decides that he does not want to risk elimination by giving an incorrect answer, so he decides to pass the HOT TATER.

Passing the HOT TATER means that Zippy chooses to pass control over to a member of Stumptown, forcing them to answer.  The contestant passing the HOT TATER is allowed to choose which of the three opponents to pass it to (in this case, Zippy has chosen Brittany, as indicated by the light trail).

Brittany must now try to give a correct answer to the list.  If she is correct, the ORANGE TEAM (Stumptown) takes over control of the question and Zippy is eliminated from play.  The option would then be given to Carra.  If Brittany gives an incorrect answer, Brittany is eliminated from play and the BLUE TEAM (Comic Nerds) retain control, and the option is passed to Mike.

A game is won when either the team in control gives the 7th correct answer to a list, or all members of a team have been eliminated, and the team with remaining members wins the game.

In the above example, the Comic Nerds have successfully given a correct 7th answer and win Game 1!

In this example, Stumptown wins as all the members of the Comic Nerds were eliminated before 7 correct answers were given (an eliminated player is indicated by their name turning red).

The first team to win 2 games wins the match and gets to play the Bonus Round!

In the bonus round, all members of the winning team will work together to give correct answers to a specific topic.  Each question will have two answers to choose from.

Let’s say the topic is “Sports franchises with the most championships.”  The team will then be shown two choices, and they will need to choose which franchise has more championships in their respective sports.

If the team answers correctly, a $ will flash on the correct answer, and the team will bank $500.

In order to “win” the bonus game, the team must answer five questions correctly.  If they so choose, they may bank any money they have accumulated and walk away from the bonus game (See SUGGESTIONS).

The team is allowed one SKIP during the Bonus Game if they don’t feel confident in their answer.  If a wrong answer is given anytime, they will lose all banked money and the Bonus Game is over.

If a 5th correct answer is given in the Bonus Game, the team wins the Jackpot!  (In this case, $10,000!)

*FOR ALL SHOWS: The main purpose for these shows is entertainment and fun, first and foremost.  While many of these games display large amounts of money and/or lavish prizes, we do NOT provide any such prizes for the games.  All parties are welcome to provide their own prizes/gifts that may be implemented in gameplay.  Below are simply some suggestions we have come up with in order to make the gameplay more interesting and/or competitive.

*ADD A SWAG BAG!: Want to play for real prizes?  Add a swag bag of awesome Eek! products to any gameshow package and award gifts as individual prizes or play for an ultimate prize package!

Determining Blue and Orange teams may be done via coin flip, drawing, etc.

Since “Hot Tater!” uses an accumulated cash system (the team that wins the main game would also win $1,000), it may be fun to keep score to see how much each team wins altogether, and the team that wins the most is the big winner!

If you would like to provide your own prizes, you can include them as part of winning the main game or the bonus round, or you could use the “money” won as a currency to buy prizes.  For example, if a team wins a total of $1,500, they could trade that money in for a prize (say a $5 Starbucks gift card is worth $1,000, a $10 Amazon card is worth $1,500, a paid day off work is worth $2,500, etc.).  Again, you would need to provide these prizes, but we are happy to keep score for you and even provide money chips to help keep track.

For larger groups, you may use more than one person at a position on a team.

Since a “Hot Tater!” package comes with three full matches and bonus rounds, you may have the winners of the first two matches compete in the final match, or use a “returning champion” feature, where whichever teams wins each match continues to the next.
