THE EEK! ORCHESTRA’S NAME THAT TUNE

It’s time to Name That Tune, with the EEK! Orchestra!

Contestants with vast music knowledge compete against each other trying to identify tunes in multiple genres, including Rock, Hip-Hop, Country, Folk, R&B, Jazz Standards, Classical, Showtunes, Pop, and Traditional Songs!

*All tunes have been recorded in instrumental form by the EEK! Orchestra, using a wide variety of instruments and styles.

The first round consists of up to 7 tunes, in any particular genre.  The wheel is spun one time (or once for each tune) to determine a “prize” amount.  This feature may be skipped in your particular game if you wish (see SUGGESTIONS).

Once an amount is set, the first tune will play.  Contestants may then buzz in anytime they think they can identify the tune.  If they are correct, they receive 1 tune.  If they are incorrect, their opponent receives a free guess as to what they think the tune is.  If the opponent is correct, they receive the tune.  If they are also incorrect, the tune is identified and no one receives the tune.

(NOTE):  Each tune plays on an average of 20-30 seconds.  If no one buzzes in when the tune finishes, no one receives the tune and the next tune is played.

When identifying a tune, the CORRECT TITLE must be said in order to receive credit.  When a contestant buzzes in, they may give extra information (i.e. extra lyrics) as long as they do identify the title in the allotted time.

  • For example, a contestant may buzz in and guess, “Because you know I’m all about that bass,” when the actual title of the song is simply “All About That Bass”.  This would be accepted as correct.
  • However, if a contestant buzzes in and guesses, “Jumpin’ Jack Sprat” for the song “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” this would be incorrect, as it is not the correct title.  Likewise, a guess of “Must be the Money” would be incorrect, as the correct title of the song is “Ride wit Me”.
  • Parenthetical titles are also acceptable.  For example, a guess of “Day-O” or “The Banana Boat Song” are both acceptable.

The first contestant to identify 4 tunes, or whomever gets the most out of 7 tunes played, wins MELODY ROULETTE.  They receive 10 POINTS added to their OVERALL SCORE and any “prize” if applicable.

If no winner is decided after 7 tunes are played, a tie-breaker tune is played.  The first to identify the tune correctly wins the round.  If someone buzzes in and is incorrect, their opponent automatically wins the tie-breaker and the 10 points.

A list of possible topics for tunes are revealed to begin round 2.  The titles of the songs in round 2 will somehow relate to the chosen topic.  A randomizer will select the topic for the round.

In this example, “Food For Thought” was chosen.  Songs in this round may be “American Pie,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” “Banana Pancakes,” “Peaches”, etc.  The first contestant to identify 3 correct tunes (or the best of 5 tunes played), wins TUNE TOPICS and 10 POINTS to their OVERALL SCORE.

If there is no winner after 5 tunes, a tie-breaker tune (of any topic/genre) is played for the round.

Round 3 consists of contestants “daring” one another to identify a tune.  On the TV Gameshow, contestants would bid on how many NOTES it would take for them to identify a particular tune.  In our version, contestant bid on how many SECONDS it will take.

A clue to a particular tune is read to both contestants.  For example, a clue may read: “This rather elementary Motown hit knocked The Beatles from the #1 position on the Billboard in 1970.”

The contestant who won TUNE TOPICS gets to make the first bid on the first tune.

The most seconds a contestant can bid is 7.  The least is 1.  Let’s say Richie begins the bid by saying, “Gabby, I can name that tune in 7 seconds.”

If Gabby wishes, she may bid anything lower than 7, or challenge Richie to “Name That Tune.”  Gabby chooses to go lower and says, “Richie, I can name that tune in 5 seconds.”

Now Richie has the option to bid lower or challenge Gabby to “Name That Tune.”

Whomever is challenged to name the tune must name the tune in the lowest amount of seconds bid up to that point.

In this example, Richie has challenged Gabby to “Name That Tune” in 3 seconds.  The clue will be read again and the 3 seconds of the tune are played.

If Gabby can correctly identify the tune, she received the tune to her score.  If she is incorrect, Richie automatically receives the tune without having to guess it himself.

A maximum of 5 tunes are played in BID-A-SECOND.  The first contest to 3 tunes earns 20 POINTS to their OVERALL SCORE.  In this case, Gabby wins the round and wins the MATCH with a score of 30-10.

If there is a tie in the OVERALL SCORE after 3 rounds of play, a tie-breaker tune is played for the MATCH.

Whomever wins the MATCH goes to the GOLDEN MEDLEY BONUS ROUND!

The GOLDEN MEDLEY consists of 7 tunes.  If the contestant can identify all 7 tunes in 30 seconds, they win!

If at anytime the contestant has troubled identifying a tune, they may buzz in and say PASS.  All passed tunes are repeated if there is time.  However, if they are able to think of the tune later on in the round, they may guess it at any time and still receive credit for the tune.

If at anytime the contestant gives an incorrect answer or takes too much time after buzzing in, the bonus round comes to an end.

*FOR ALL SHOWS: The main purpose for these shows is entertainment and fun, first and foremost.  While many of these games display large amounts of money and/or lavish prizes, we do NOT provide any such prizes for the games.  All parties are welcome to provide their own prizes/gifts that may be implemented in gameplay.  Below are simply some suggestions we have come up with in order to make the gameplay more interesting and/or competitive.

*ADD A SWAG BAG!: Want to play for real prizes?  Add a swag bag of awesome Eek! products to any gameshow package and award gifts as individual prizes or play for an ultimate prize package!

For larger-sized groups, you may play in teams instead of individuals.

If you wish to play for prizes, you may implement these into gameplay.  You could use the wheel in MELODY ROULETTE to hand out a cash prize or a prize based on which wedge the wheel lands on.  Likewise, on the TV gameshow, contestants won prizes for winning the individual rounds (i.e. TUNE TOPICS and BID-A-SECOND), as well as winning for getting some tunes correct in the GOLDEN MEDLEY.

You may also like to keep a running score based on the “money” won in a match.  For example, you can award the “money” from the wheel to the contestant who wins in.  Also, you could award $250 for each tune identified in the GOLDEN MEDLEY, etc.  If you would like to provide your own prizes, you could use the “money” won as a currency to buy prizes as well.
