CHAIN-LINK

The game where one word leads to another!

Two teams of three compete against each other trying to form chains of words.  Each chain contains eight words.  Each word in the chain will relate somehow to the next word in the chain, which will then relate to the next word, and so on.  Here is an example:

This chain begins the word SUPER.  SUPER links to the word GIRL, as in SUPERGIRL the comic book hero.  The word GIRL then links to the word PRINCESS, as a princess is a girl born to royalty, or a little girl may call herself “princess”, etc.  PRINCESS then links to DIANA, referring to the famous member of the British Royal Family.  DIANA links to ROSS, as in the famous Motown singer.  ROSS links to FRIENDS, as Ross was a main character on the TV show “Friends”.  FRIENDS links to CIRCLE, as in having a circle of friends.  Finally, CIRCLE leads to BALL, as a ball has a circular shape.

Each chain will begin with only the first word and the last word revealed.

The first member of the first team will decide if they would like to place a letter in the word just below SUPER or just above BALL.  All the chains can be linked in either direction.

The team member will then have 5 seconds to try to guess what next word is in the link.  If they are incorrect, the opposing team’s first member will then place the next letter.  Once again, they can only add a letter to the word just below SUPER or just above BALL.

Once the word is correctly guessed, that team receives one point for each letter in that word.  In this case, the correct answer was CIRCLE, so the team receives 6 points.

The teams will play in a round robin format.  That is, no one player will place more than one letter per turn.  If a team’s first member guesses a word correctly, that team maintains control of the board, but the second person on the team then places the next letter.  If the first team is incorrect, play goes to the opposing team and so on.

Chains will also feature words with a “+” symbol in them.  Words that are guessed correctly in these slots are worth double points.  The first team to score 50 points, or have the most points after two chains are complete wins the match and plays the Bonus Round!

The winning team must decide which two players will be the clue givers and who will be the guesser.  The guesser may not look at the screen.  The Bonus Round features a series of people, places, and things.  The goal is to give clues one word at a time for the guesser.  The two clue givers must alternate giving one word at a time.  The clues must also be in the form of a question.  Take this example:

The first item on the list is A CLOCK.  The two clue givers must decide who will always speak the first word.  Since the clues must be in the form of a question, the first word clue will always be a “Who, What, Where, When, Why, or How”.  Let’s say the first clue word given is “What”.  The other clue giver must then provide another word to progress the question.  They may say “Device.”  Then the first clue giver must again provide another word clue.

So let’s say the two clue givers provide this chain: What-device-tells-the-time?  When the clue givers have decided enough information is given, the clue giver whose turn is next may yell “ANSWER”.  This will notify the guesser that they may guess the answer.  The guesser is only allowed one guess.

The team has 90 seconds to get 7 correct answers.  For each correct answer, a money pot will grow.  The order goes: $250, $500, $1,000, $2,000, $3,000, $4,000, and $10,000 (See Suggestions).  The team may pass at any time they get hung up on an answer.  If an incorrect answer is guessed, a clue giver gives more than a one-word clue, the chain is not in question form, or any part of the answer is given as a clue, the next answer will appear and play continues.

Since the clue givers will not know the next word their teammate will give, this can make for some very amusing chains!

*FOR ALL SHOWS: The main purpose for these shows is entertainment and fun, first and foremost.  While many of these games display large amounts of money and/or lavish prizes, we do NOT provide any such prizes for the games.  All parties are welcome to provide their own prizes/gifts that may be implemented in gameplay.  Below are simply some suggestions we have come up with in order to make the gameplay more interesting and/or competitive.

*ADD A SWAG BAG!: Want to play for real prizes?  Add a swag bag of awesome Eek! products to any gameshow package and award gifts as individual prizes or play for an ultimate prize package!

Groups of any size may be accommodated.  Teams can have less or more than three people.  For groups with less than three per team, an alternate bonus game can be implemented, or teams may combine to play the Bonus Round.

If you would like to provide your own prizes, you can include them for winning the matches and/or the Bonus Round.

You may shuffle up the teams between matches if you wish.  It may also be fun to keep a running score of the money won by each contestant, and the contestant(s) that wins the most money is the big winner(s)!

Determining team members and who goes first may be done via coin flip, drawing, etc.

Since a “Chain-Link” package comes with three full matches and bonus rounds, you may have the winners of the first two matches compete in the final match, or use a “returning champion” feature, where whomever wins each match continues to the next.
