BEAT THE HOST

If you’re smart enough, fast enough, and if you’ve got the guts, you can Beat the Host!

Three contestants compete against each other answering questions and eventually hoping to beat the Host at his home game!

The Host begins the game with a $5,000 pot.  Three contestants play against each other in the first round, trying to win money from the Host’s pot.

A series of five topics are given to the contestants to choose from.

The Host chooses which contestant selects the first topic.  Once the topic is chosen, a money amount will appear, showing the value of that question.  All questions in the first round range from $50 to $150.  The higher the value of the question, the more difficult the question will be.

The Host will read the question in full.  Once the question is finished, contestants can buzz in to be the first to answer.

If the contestant is correct, they receive the amount of the question and it is deducted from the Host’s pot.  If the contestant is incorrect, the remaining two contestants can buzz in to try to answer the question themselves.  Contestants are not penalized for giving an incorrect answer.

In the first round, each question will be followed by an additional question worth $50.  If a contestant got the initial question correct, that contestant gets first try at the $50 follow up question.  If they answer the follow up question incorrectly, the other two contestants can buzz in to steal the $50.

If no contestant answers the initial question correctly, the follow up question becomes a toss-up question where any contestant can buzz in.

After the follow up question, a new topic will appear.  The contestant who answered the last question correctly chooses the next topic.

The Host will alert the contestants when there are two questions remaining in the round.  After those questions are completed, the contestant with the lowest score is eliminated from the game.  Any money that the lowest-scoring contestant won in the round is added back to the Host’s pot.  The other two contestants continue to Round Two.

The two remaining contestants enter Round 2 with the same score they had from Round 1.

Gameplay works the same as in Round 1, however the questions increase in value from $200 to $500, and there are no follow up questions.

*This is where gameplay may change depending on your party.  Here are some options:

  • The Host can become a contestant and answer questions to defend his “money”.  You may volunteer someone to read the questions, or the Host can still read the questions.  You may provide your own questions for this round, or the Host can use questions that will be prepared beforehand, but without the Host knowing them.
  • The contestant that was eliminated in the First Round can continue to play, but is answering questions to prevent the other contestants from earning “money”.  This can be a good choice if you are using a running overall score for your entire show (see SUGGESTIONS).

Once again, the Host will alert the players when there are two questions remaining in the round.  After the final two questions, the contestant with the highest score goes to the Bonus Round to compete head to head against the Host.  The losing contestant’s “money” is added back to the Host’s pot.

Whatever “money” was won by the contestant in the previous two rounds is theirs to keep no matter what at this point (see SUGGESTIONS).

The Bonus Round, known as the Best of 10 Test of Knowledge, is played between the winning contestant and the Host.  The contestant and Host will be asked the same set of 10 general knowledge questions.  Both the contestant and host will have 60 seconds to answer the questions.

The contestant chooses whether they would like to go first or second.

*****Questions for the Bonus Round are prepared without the Host’s knowledge.  The Host will have previously done their part of the test, which will be recorded and be used for their score in the Bonus Round.  You may choose to alter how the Bonus Round is played (see SUGGESTIONS).

For each question the contestant/Host answers correctly, one point is added to their score.  If a question is passed, it will NOT be asked again.

If the contestant answers more questions right than the Host, the contestant wins the Bonus Round and the Host’s pot of $5,000!

If the Host answers more questions right than the Host, the Host wins and has successfully defended his remaining pot.

In the event of a tie, the contestant is awarded an additional $1,000 from the Host’s pot.

*FOR ALL SHOWS: The main purpose for these shows is entertainment and fun, first and foremost.  While many of these games display large amounts of money and/or lavish prizes, we do NOT provide any such prizes for the games.  All parties are welcome to provide their own prizes/gifts that may be implemented in gameplay.  Below are simply some suggestions we have come up with in order to make the gameplay more interesting and/or competitive.

*ADD A SWAG BAG!: Want to play for real prizes?  Add a swag bag of awesome Eek! products to any gameshow package and award gifts as individual prizes or play for an ultimate prize package!

For larger groups, contestants can play in teams rather than as individuals.

You may replace the Host with another person(s) in your party.  They can play as the Host trying to defend their money.  This would make it more fun to prevent other players from winning more “money” from the Host.  If you have a multi-show package, it may be fun to keep a running score of all the games played, so the totals from this show can be added.

If you would rather create your own questions for the 2nd round and/or Best of 10 Test of Knowledge, you may do so with approval from Eek!  This way the Host can play in real time.

If you would like to provide your own prizes, you could provide them for winning the Game, or you could use the “money” won as a currency to buy prizes.  For example, if a contestant “wins” a total of $2,000, they could trade that money in for a prize (say a $5 Starbucks gift card is worth $1,000, a $10 Amazon card is worth $2,500, a paid day off work is worth $5,000, etc.).  Again, you would need to provide these prizes, but we are happy to keep score for you.
